choosing a shipping provider

Choosing a Shipping Provider

When choosing a shipping provider, there are three attributes to give consideration to:

  • Reliability - Does the company offer insurance & make good on claims if the item is lost or damaged in transit? Is the item going to be delivered within the suggested delivery times?
  • Convenience - Will the shipping provider pick up the package at your home or office? Is a tracking service available?
  • Price - Does it really cost that much to ship something? There's gotta be something less expensive!
For this Shipping Provider Showdown, each shipping provider; Fedex vs UPS vs USPS vs Shipnex vs Greyhound vs DHL will be evaluated on Reliability, Convenience & Price when shipping 4 full-sized automotive wheels with tires from the West Coast (Sacramento, CA 95815) to the East Coast (Charlotte, NC 28205) Package Details:

Nex Worldwide Express   Price:
Nex Worldwide Express Pricing

Convenience: There is a $6.00 charge assessed when requesting a pick up from a residential location, though this charge can be avoided if you take your package(s) to UPS or FedEx. 99% of the time ShipNex will use UPS for large items like wheels, so if you're shipping wheels plan on requesting a pick up or dropping the prepackaged wheels off at a UPS location with the shipping label affixed. Both tracking and delivery confirmation services are offered free of charge.

ShipNex

Reliability: According to Consumer Affairs, ShipNex returned no results, nor when searching for any variation of the company name. (ie. Nex, Nex Worldwide, Nex Shipping, Ship Nex).

I thoroughly searched Google for any type of complaints I could find on ShipNex and I found a post by a customer being assessed a surcharge that he was not expecting. Surcharges can be assessed for a number of reasons. For example, if the item was not correctly weighed before printing the shipping labels and requesting a pick up. Sometimes the cost of fuel is changing so frequently a shipping broker rather charge the customer less up front & include a variable surcharge if deemed necessary. With ShipNex ground service, this fuel surcharge will never exceed 7% of the total shipping costs.

ShipNex is a shipping broker that primarily buys empty cargo space from FedEx & UPS at substantial discounts, allowing them to pass the savings on to their customers. Rest assured knowing FedEx & UPS are well insured for any damages that do occur in transit. Filing a claim with ShipNex is no different than filing a claim with FedEx or UPS.
